Do You Want to Be Alone With Me tells a love story in two acts - an encounter between two young people dating, and then a later argument between them once they're married - as an analogy for Jesus' invitation for us to enter his loneliness on the cross.
Lyrics
On a brisk day in fall, on a bridge in the woods
With yellow leaves tumbling through rapids past stones
Your hair like a waterfall framing your face
And those eyes I can't see through
I think we'd be real cute together
So can I ask you out though we're already dating
'Cause I don't feel like I have gotten to know you
And that we're still so far apart
Your smile inviting and I want you to know me but I'm not so good with words
To be able to tell you what I'm really feeling, up close this distance hurts
Do you wanna be alone with me
In this solitary confinement can your cell be next to my cell
Do you wanna be alone with me
The wallpaper's torn where I threw down your bag
And I can't work out if that's my fault or yours
'Cause I don't remember the words that you said
Just how they made me feel
And like I said the last time, that's not what I meant
But the words when I say them are not what you hear
The walls in this house where we live all witness
That you're supposed to know me
Do you wanna be alone with me
Well then, if this feels like prison, can you keep your cell by my cell
Even though you won't hear me, and I can't fully know you
I'd be all alone if you left, so
Do you wanna be alone with me
It was there in the garden that you fell asleep while I wept
And Satan came jeering to say you'd as good as left
But I'll bleed all the blood in my heart to make it not so
Do you wanna be alone with me
Will you be abandoned with me
Will you breathe with me 'til your last breath
Do you wanna be alone with me
